Today was meeting day and became a review of Model Expo and a chance to show off kits in progress, completed builds and some new products. Also a few of us brought in kits that took part in the Warbirds club display and also some general entries. A highlight was the number of attending members which was great and also some new faces as a result of our Expo display. Its always a pleasure when new prospective members come by for a visit, as it gives us an opportunity to showcase who we are and what we love doing. Martin Reid our club president led a discussion on abrasive techniques including tools of the trade, as well providing general tips and skills required from a building perspective. One thing I personally love about Warbirds is that all members are included in topics of conversation which is also backed up by skillful and knowledgeable members. Here are some pics of what was on the table and this meeting gave us plenty to see.

April meeting update
Here are some images of a few goodies that were brought in by our members for our April meeting. We love to bring along new kits and a mix of completed or in progress builds to our meetings as they form a conversation point and add to our successful format. Our last meeting was at the Tyabb Air Show so there was much discussion and reflection on the terrifc warbirds on display, and the fact that the crowds were much larger than predicted. Suggestions were put forward for possible modelling demonstrations such as ‘how to execute wood grain finishes’ and ‘how to establish a smooth finish prior to airbrushing’. As a club we try to be as informative as possible and one method of doing this is by demonstrating techniques and raising topic based discussions.
Planning for Expo is well under way with members providing a list of kits to fill the tables and will also include a general club display. The dreaded ‘Build-A-Bitch’ is coming again soon only this year the participant will have a month to complete the nominated kit.
Updated meeting location for 13th March
As a reminder please note that our next club meeting will not be held at Ashburton as it has been moved to the Tyabb Airshow instead. The change is to accommodate this event and the fact that most of our members will be going along. This will be a great opportunity to see a fine selection of military aircraft including the following:
- Vought F4U Corsair
- Curtis P40F KittyHawk
- Yak 9
- CA-18 Mustang
There will be many others as well so it should be a great show and the weather looks to be mild, which is perfect for us old blokes.
